PC connectivity, remote control, and data acquisition

A question from a user:

I am using the AEI 2000 to execute and mechanize our rigorous and often laborious set of production tests to ensure every LED luminaire meets our efficacy and lifetime standards. Furthermore, I would like to capture this data electronically and access the devices on the production floor remotely.  Do you have an app. note on how to implement PC/network based control and data acquisition?

Regards,

M. Dolton

Mr. Dolton,

What I would suggest for PC connectivity to the AEI 2000 would be to use RS-485.  All versions of the AEI 2000 have RS-485 on them and a simple USB to RS-485 converter would work out well.  We don't currently sell any of them, but there are very nice ones at B and B Electronics (485USBTB-2W-LS) and all over eBay.  Once that connection is in place, a simple data dump command could be issued at the AEI 2000 to send all of your data to a terminal program or a more advanced .NET app to receive your logged data.

To be more sophisticated, you could also implement a protocol between the PC and the AEI 2000 to issue commands, etc.

Our SDK comes with standard serial port communications routines suitable for RS-485.

We are happy to help with any further questions or issues you have with your application.

Thank you,

Gabriel
